Ávila (UK: , US: , Spanish: [ˈaβila] (listen)) is a city of Spain located in the autonomous community of Castile and León. It is the capital and most populated municipality of the Province of Ávila.It lies on the right bank of the Adaja river. Located over 1,130 m above sea level, the city is the highest provincial capital in Spain.

The Convento de San José (English: Convent of Saint Joseph) is a monastery of Discalced Carmelite nuns in Ávila, Spain. It is situated not far from the center of the city but outside the medieval walls. Saint Teresa of Jesus was the driving force behind the foundation of the monastery, which was built from 1562 onwards.

Real Monasterio de Santo Tomás (Royal Monastery of St. Thomas) is a monastery of the Catholic Monarchs of Spain in Gothic style in Ávila, Spain. It was founded in 1482, as a Dominican convent to honour Saint Thomas Aquinas (Tomás de Aquino). It became the burial place of John, Prince of Asturias.Since the 1970s the monastic church has served as a parish church.
