Best Walking Trails & Routes in Inishbofin

Starting off at the Doonmore Hotel and heading east on an even tarmaced road come first to a viewing point where a signal tower can be seen dead ahead, to the left a Cromwellian era barracks and to the right in the centre of the natural opening to the harbour is Bishop’s Rock. Continuing east along the road is another round signal tower to the left. Further along past a turning on the left is the harbour shop and community centre with toilets. To the right is the new pier. Continuing along the road, to the left is the church and opposite is the old pier with Day’s Bar and b&b. Next is the Inishbofin House Hotel and Marine Spa. Continue along the road there is a left turn, take this uphill stretch and after a short distance is the Dolphin Hotel and opposite is the Inishbofin Island Hostel. At the end of the road take the left marked Middle Quarter. Continue up this gradual incline to the end of the road and go left passing several picturesque cottages, farmland and stunning views. Head south and at the end of the road go right to take you back to the Doonmore Hotel and a refreshing pint of Guinness in the bar. There is also a very good restaurant serving great food. Music every night from 9.30. This is one of several loop walks and cycles around the island with magical vistas and a ruins hinting of times gone by. The Island is a must for any that would like a slower pace of life and an appreciation for the natural world.
