Villargondran - St Jean de Maurienne

Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne (French pronunciation: ​[sɛ̃ʒɑ̃ d(ə) mɔʁjɛn]; Arpetan: Sent-Jian-de-Môrièna Italian: San Giovanni di Moriana) is a commune in the Savoie department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region in south-eastern France. It is a sub-prefecture of the department.It lies in the Maurienne, the valley of the River Arc.

Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne Cathedral is a church in Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne, Savoie, that is one of two co-cathedrals of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chambéry–Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne–Tarentaise. Until 1966, it was the cathedral of the Diocese of Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne. It is dedicated to John the Baptist.

The French Roman Catholic diocese of Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne (San Giovanni di Moriana in Italian) has since 1966 been effectively suppressed, formally united with the archdiocese of Chambéry. While it has not been suppressed, and is supposed to be on a par with Chambéry and the diocese of Tarentaise, it no longer has a separate bishop or existence.
