107th Infantry Memorial

The 107th Infantry Memorial is an outdoor bronze sculpture and memorial located at the intersection of East 67th Street and Fifth Avenue in Central Park, in Manhattan, New York, which honors members of the 107th Infantry who died during World War I. Created by the sculptor Karl Morningstar Illava (1896–1954), who "drew from his own experience serving as a sergeant with the 107th," according to the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation, the sculpture cost an estimated $60,000 at the time of its construction, depicts the actions of seven World War I-era soldiers, and rests on a 25-foot-wide stepped granite base designed by architects Rogers & Haneman.

It was constructed between 1907 and 1908 for Edward Harkness by James Gamble Rogers, a principal of the firm Hale & Rogers.It received landmark status in 1967. The Landmarks Preservation Commission's designation described the building as "an imposing residence in the style of an Italian Renaissance palazzo." Today the Commonwealth Fund, founded by Harkness and his mother, has its headquarters there.

58th Street Terminal

58th Street Terminal or 58th Street was a station on the demolished IRT Sixth Avenue Line. It had three tracks and two side platforms. The center track was used for storage. The station was opened by the Gilbert Elevated Railway on June 5, 1878, and served as the northern terminus of the IRT Sixth Avenue Line trains until the line was acquired by the Manhattan Railway Company and built a connecting spur from 50th Street Station (the next southbound stop) along 53rd Street to the Ninth Avenue Elevated.
