Mátészalka is a town in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county, in the Northern Great Plain region of eastern Hungary. It is on the Kraszna River, 18 kilometers from the city of Nyiregyhaza.Before World War II, there was a Jewish community in the town. At its height, there were 932 Jews in the community most of them were murdered by the Nazis in the Holocaust.
