In June 2019, it was named as one of the two venues to host cricket matches for Bermuda's Twenty20 series against the Bahamas, and the Regional Finals of the 2018–19 ICC T20 World Cup Americas Qualifier tournament. Mid-way through the Americas Qualifier tournament, the pitch at the Bermuda National Stadium was deemed to be unsuitable, and the matches scheduled to be played at the stadium were moved to White Hill Field.

Built in 1844 by the Royal Engineers, the Gibbs Hill Lighthouse is the taller of two lighthouses on Bermuda, and one of the first lighthouses in the world to be made of cast-iron. This is because at that time, steel still was not able to be bent. The optic consists of a Fresnel lens from 1904 revolving on steel bearings.

It is named for Henry Wriothesley, 3rd Earl of Southampton (1573-1624).It is located in the southwest of the island chain, occupying all of the western part of the main island, except for the westernmost tip (which is part of Sandys Parish). It includes the chain's southernmost point, and its north coast comprises much of the coast of the Little Sound (an arm of the Great Sound, the large expanse of water which dominates the geography of western Bermuda).
