The University of Edinburgh Medical School (also known as Edinburgh Medical School) is the medical school of the University of Edinburgh in Scotland and part of the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine, the head of which is Sir John Savill. Moira Whyte has been head of the school since 2016. It was established in 1726, during the Scottish Enlightenment, making it the oldest medical school in the United Kingdom and is one of the oldest medical schools in the English-speaking world.

The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, or RIE, often (but incorrectly) known as the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, or ERI, was established in 1729 and is the oldest voluntary hospital in Scotland. The new buildings of 1879 were claimed to be the largest voluntary hospital in the United Kingdom, and later on, the Empire.

Castlebrae Community High School is a secondary school in the Greendykes area of Edinburgh.

The Royal Hospital for Children and Young People is a hospital under construction that will specialise in paediatric healthcare. The hospital, which replaces the Royal Hospital for Sick Children (the Sick Kids) in Sciennes, will form part of the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh campus at Little France, in Edinburgh.

Greendykes is a suburb of Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland. It is a fairly large council scheme, which consists mostly of low-rise flats but also houses two 14 storey tower blocks (Greendykes House and Wauchope House). It is sometimes considered to be part of Craigmillar, areas such as Niddrie, Niddrie Mains and Newcraighall are also situated nearby.

The Edinburgh BioQuarter is a bioscience community based near the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and the Queen's Medical Research Centre in Edinburgh, close to the Roslin Institute for Animal Biology. It is Scotland's key initiative in the development of its life sciences industry, which employs more than 30,000 people in 600 companies.

The Scottish Centre for Regenerative Medicine (SCRM) is a stem cell research centre at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, dedicated to the study and development of new regenerative treatments for human diseases. The £54 million facility is part of a total £600 million joint investment in stem cell biology and medicine by the Scottish Government and the University of Edinburgh.
