Nizhny Novgorod (Russian: Нижний Новгород, IPA: [ˈnʲiʐnʲɪj ˈnovɡərət]); Russian: Ни́жний Но́вгород, IPA: [ˈnʲiʐnʲɪj ˈnovɡərət]), colloquially shortened to Nizhny, is a city in Russia and the administrative center (capital) of Volga Federal District and Nizhny Novgorod Oblast. From 1932 to 1990, it was known as Gorky (Го́рький, IPA: [ˈɡorʲkʲɪj]), after the writer Maxim Gorky, who was born there.

Aleksandr Suvorov (Russian: Александр Суворов) is a Valerian Kuybyshev-class (92-016, OL400) Soviet/Russian river cruise ship, cruising in the Volga–Don basin. On 5 June 1983 Aleksandr Suvorov crashed into a girder of the Ulyanovsk railway bridge. The catastrophe led to 176 deaths yet the ship stayed afloat, was restored and still navigates.

Bolshaya Pokrovskaya Street (Russian: Большая Покровская улица, lit. 'Greater Intercession Street'. Nizhny Novgorod Radio Laboratory (Russian: Нижегородская радиолаборатория, НРЛ) was the first Soviet science laboratory in the field of radio electronics. It was based in 1918 in Nizhny Novgorod. In 1928, the laboratory was reorganized and moved into the Central Radio Laboratory in Leningrad.
