The Beirut Central District (BCD) or Centre Ville is the name given to the historical and geographical core of Beirut, the capital of Lebanon. The BCD, also called downtown Beirut, has been described the “vibrant financial, commercial, and administrative hub of the country.” It is an area thousands of years old, traditionally a focus of business, finance, culture and leisure.

Martyrs' Square (Arabic: ساحة الشهداء‎ Sahat al Shouhada) (French: Place des Martyrs) is a square in the heart of downtown Beirut, Lebanon.

The Maghen Abraham Synagogue (Arabic: كنيس ماغين أبراهام‎ - "Kanīs Mā'ghīn Abrā'hām"; Hebrew: בית הכנסת מגן אברהם‎ - "Beth HaKenesset Magen Avraham") is one of the main synagogues in Lebanon. Located in the Jewish district of Wadi Abu Jamil in downtown Beirut, the synagogue was destroyed during the Lebanese Civil War.

The law school of Beirut (also known as the law school of Berytus and the school of Roman law at Berytus) was a center for the study of Roman law in classical antiquity located in Beirut (Latin: Berytus). It flourished under the patronage of the Roman emperors and functioned as the Roman Empire's preeminent center of jurisprudence until its destruction in AD 551.

The 551 Beirut earthquake occurred on 9 July with an estimated magnitude of about 7.5 on the moment magnitude scale and a maximum felt intensity of X (Extreme) on the Mercalli intensity scale. It triggered a devastating tsunami which affected the coastal towns of Byzantine Phoenicia, causing great destruction and sinking many ships.

Beirut Souks is a major commercial district in Beirut Central District. With over 200 shops, 25 restaurants and cafes, a children’s science museum, an entertainment center, a 14 cinema complex, periodic street markets and an upcoming department store, it is Beirut's largest and most diverse shopping and leisure area.

The assassination of Mohamad Chatah occurred on 27 December 2013 when a car bomb targeting a convoy detonated in Beirut Central District killing Chatah, his bodyguard, and four others. Chatah had previously served as Lebanon's finance minister and ambassador to the United States and was known as a leading critic of Hezbollah and the Assad regime among the country's political elite.

Al-Omari Grand Mosque (Arabic: المسجد العمري الكبير‎) is a mosque in Beirut Central District, Lebanon.

Saint George Maronite Cathedral (Arabic: كاتدرائية مار جرجس للموارنة‎) is the cathedral of the Maronite Catholic Archeparchy of Beirut, Archdiocese of the city of Beirut, Lebanon. Its construction, with a Neoclassical facade, interior and plan inspired by the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore, began in 1884 and ended in 1894.

The Beirut Marathon, is an annual event that takes place in Beirut, Lebanon. The first ever Marathon was held on October 19th, 2003 and attracted over 6,000 runners from 49 countries, and tens of thousands of Lebanese and international spectators. These numbers increased every year, most notably reaching 32,000 runners from 71 countries in the 2009 BLOM Beirut Marathon, and over 47,800 runners in 2017.
