Bergamo

Bergamo (US: , Italian: [ˈbɛrɡamo] (listen); Eastern Lombard: Bèrghem [ˈbɛrɡɛm] (listen); Latin: Bergŏmum) is a city in the alpine Lombardy region of northern Italy, approximately 40 km (25 mi) northeast of Milan, and approximately 30 km (19 mi) from Switzerland, the alpine lakes Como and Iseo, and 70 km (43 mi) from Garda and Maggiore.

Bergamo Cathedral (Italian: Duomo di Bergamo, Cattedrale di Sant'Alessandro) is a Roman Catholic cathedral in Bergamo, Italy, dedicated to Saint Alexander of Bergamo, patron saint of the city. It is the seat of the Bishop of Bergamo.

The Cappella Colleoni (Italian: "Colleoni Chapel") is a church and mausoleum in Bergamo in northern Italy.Dedicated to the saints Bartholomew, Mark and John the Baptist, it was built between 1472 and 1476 as the personal shrine for the condottiere Bartolomeo Colleoni, a member of one of the most outstanding families of the city, and his beloved daughter Medea.

The Funicular Railway Upper City - Lower City (Italian: Funicolare Città Alta), is a funicular railway line in the city of Bergamo, Italy. It connects the historic core of Città Alta (the suspended fortified city of Bergamo built up on a hill) with the Città Bassa, the financial lower city. Built in 1887, it is one of the two funicular lines serving the city of Bergamo: the other being the funicular railway of Saint Vigilio (Italian: Funicolare di San Vigilio), connecting the Città Alta with the hill of Saint Vigilio.

The Teatro Donizetti is an opera house in Bergamo, Italy. Built in the 1780s using a design by architect Giovanni Francesco Lucchini, the theatre was originally referred to as either the Teatro Nuovo or Teatro di Fiera. The first opera to be mounted at the theatre, Giuseppe Sarti's Medonte, re di Epiro, was in 1784 while the opera house was still under construction.

Civic Museum of Natural Science Enrico Caffi (Italian: Museo di Scienze Naturali Enrico Caffi) is a natural history museum in Bergamo, Italy. The museum has more than 55,000 artifacts, fossils, animal and plant specimens. The museum is founded in 1918 and, after multiple moves, is currently located at Piazza Cittadella.

The Matris Domini Monastery is an enclosed female monastery which hosts the museum of the same name, situated in the lower part of the Italian city of Bergamo. It houses a museum featuring several medieval frescoes with religious themes.

The Palazzo Moroni is an urban aristocratic palace located on Via Porta #12 in the historic center of the upper town of Bergamo, Italy. The palace with its Baroque interior decorations and is a civic art museum, as well as used for cultural functions. The building is presently managed by the Fondazione di Palazzo Moroni in conjunction with the city after a donation by former Count Antonio Moroni.

The Museo Matris Domini is housed in the oldest section of the Dominican convent of the same name, situated in the city centre of Bergamo, Italy. It is administered by the nuns of the foundation.The museum preserves a series of 13th and 14th Century frescoes which were uncovered in a 1973 restoration of what was thought to have been the old refectory and a small church within the monastery.

The Museo Adriano Bernareggi, also called the Museo Diocesano Bernareggi is an gallery of sacred art and objects housed in a former aristocratic palace, the Palazzo Bassi-Rathgeb, located on Via Pignolo #76 in Bergamo, Italy. The museum is presently managed by the Fondazione Adriano Bernareggi in conjunction with the Università degli Studi di Bergamo, and displays eclectic works of art from the 15th-century to present, often paired, and derived mainly from the Bernareggi family, as well as the Diocese of Bergamo.
