The Batum Oblast was an oblast (province) of the Caucasus Viceroyalty of the Russian Empire, with the maritime city of Batum as its center. It roughly corresponded to most of present-day southwestern Georgia. It was created out of the territories of the former Ottoman Sanjak of Batum (occupied by the Ottomans since the late 16th century).

The structure combines the design of DNA, in its familiar double helix pattern. Two helix bands rise up the tower holding 33 letters of the Georgian alphabet, each 4 meters tall and made of aluminum.

It was constructed in the late 1990s by the Georgian architects Oleg Pataridze and Giorgi Baghoshvili and consecrated in 2000.The building replaced the earlier church which was confiscated by communists during the Soviet occupation but since 1989 serves as the Georgian Orthodox Cathedral of the Mother of God.

Central Stadium (Batumi)

Central Stadium was a multi-use stadium in Batumi, Georgia. It was used mostly for football matches and was the home stadium of FC Dinamo Batumi. Originally the capacity of the stadium was 15,000. Later the stadium was able to hold only 4,000 people. Finally, the arena was fully demolished and a new stadium is currently under construction.
