The Swansea Canal (Welsh: Camlas Abertawe) was a canal constructed by the Swansea Canal Navigation Company between 1794 and 1798, running for 16.5 miles (26.6 km) from Swansea to Hen Neuadd, Abercraf in South Wales. It was steeply graded, and 36 locks were needed to enable it to rise 373 feet (114 m) over its length.

Pontardawe (Welsh pronunciation: [pɔntarˈdawɛ]) – bridge on the Tawe – is a town in the Swansea Valley (Welsh: Cwmtawe) in Wales. The community of Pontardawe, with a population of 7,000, comprises the electoral wards of Pontardawe and Trebanos, is served by an elected Town Council and forms part of the county borough of Neath Port Talbot.

The Gleision Colliery mining accident was a mining accident which occurred on 15 September 2011 at the Gleision Colliery, a drift mine at Cilybebyll in Neath Port Talbot, in Wales. The accident occurred while seven miners were working with explosives on a narrow coal seam. Following a routine blasting operation the tunnel in which the miners were working began to fill with water.

Godre'r Graig is a village and an electoral ward of Neath Port Talbot county borough, Wales.The village developed alongside the coal workings at the Tarenni Colliery, which closed in 1949.In 2008 the community came together at a public meeting held in the local primary school regarding the long neglected park.

The Tarenni Colliery (Welsh: Gloddfa Tarenni) and its associated workings, are a series of coal mines and pits located between the villages of Godre'r Graig and Cilybebyll located in the valley of the River Tawe, in Neath Port Talbot county borough, South Wales.
