Tanfield to whickham and back

Whickham Football Club are an English football club based in Whickham, Tyne and Wear, playing in the Northern League Division One in the English football league system. They won the FA Vase in 1981.The team plays its home matches at the Glebe Sports Ground, Rose Avenue, Whickham. NE16 4NA.

Whickham is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Gateshead, North East England, 5 miles (8.0 km) south west of Newcastle upon Tyne, and is situated on high ground overlooking the River Tyne. In 2011, it had a population of 16,652. Whickham is a semi-rural, middle class suburban town and former civil parish.

Sunniside is a small village in the Metropolitan Borough of Gateshead, England just south of Whickham, and is the northern terminus of the Tanfield Railway. Prior to the creation of the county of Tyne & Wear in 1974, it was part of Whickham Urban District, which itself formed part of County Durham. It has a busy Front Street with a collection of pubs, shops, and amenities, and is well served by public transport, with eight buses an hour to Newcastle on weekdays courtesy of Go North East's "Northern 6" (via the Metrocentre) and "Toon Link X30/X31 / Northern X70/X71" (via Gateshead) services.

Marley Hill is a former colliery village about six miles to the south west of Gateshead, near the border between Tyne and Wear and County Durham. It has been part of the Metropolitan Borough of Gateshead since 1974. Prior to this it was part of Whickham Urban District. It lies within the Whickham South & Sunniside electoral ward of the Blaydon parliamentary constituency.
