Located in the southwest of the region, it lies on the spurs of the Sistema Central. It is noted by its granite quarries. The municipality covers an area of 47.64 km2. As of 2018, it has a population of 3,049.

It was built by Álvaro de Luna, Duke of Trujillo.The building and the gardens are separately listed as Bienes de Interés Cultural (Spain's national heritage listing).The building is listed as a monumento and has been protected since 1931, while the gardens are listed as a jardín histórico and have been protected since the 1970s.
