Mount Gambier

Mount Gambier is the second most populated city in South Australia, with a population of 31,308 as of the 2021 census. The city is located on the slopes of Mount Gambier, a volcano in the south east of the state, about 450 kilometres (280 mi) south-east of the capital Adelaide and just 17 kilometres (11 mi) from the Victorian border.

Generations In Jazz (often abbreviated to GIJ) is an annual weekend jazz festival held in Mount Gambier, South Australia. It is held in May and brings together many young jazz musicians from all over Australia and New Zealand.

The District Council of Grant is a local government area located in the Limestone Coast region of South Australia, and is the southernmost council in the state.The council was formed on 1 July 1996 after the amalgamation of the District Council of Mount Gambier and the District Council of Port MacDonnell, and currently surrounds the City of Mount Gambier.

The Limestone Coast Railway was a tourist railway in the Australian state of South Australia which, from 1998 to 2006, operated a tourist service from Mount Gambier to stations on local 5 ft 3 in (1,600 mm) gauge railway lines which had been closed in April 1995. The stations included Coonawarra and Penola on the Mount Gambier line, Millicent and Tantanoola on the Mount Gambier to Millicent line and Rennick on the Mount Gambier-Heywood railway line.

The Mount Gambier Fire Station, at 40a Sturt Street, in Mount Gambier, South Australia is a historic site listed on the South Australian Heritage Register. It was built in 1955. It was deemed notable as "an unusual and intact example of a mid-1950s utilitarian purpose built service building. The building is representative of post-war functionalist architecture on a minor scale, and was the basis of the prototype for of a number of new regional fire stations.
