It was race two of seven in the 1950 World Championship of Drivers. The 100-lap race was held at an overall distance of 318.1 km (197.1 mi) and was won by Juan Manuel Fangio for the Alfa Romeo team after starting from pole position.

It depicts Juan Manuel Fangio (1911–1995), a race driver and five-time Formula One champion in the 1950s, standing next to 1954 Mercedes-Benz W196 race car.

It is dedicated to William Grover-Williams, a racing driver who, on 14 April 1929, won the first ever Monaco Grand Prix, and depicted driving his Bugatti Type 35.
