The Red Castle Museum, also known as As-saraya Al-hamra Museum (Arabic: متحف السرايا الحمراء‎), the Archaeological Museum of Tripoli or Jamahiriya Museum, is a national museum in Libya. It is located in the historic building known as the Red Castle of Tripoli (Arabic: السراي الحمراء‎), sometimes also referred to as Red Saraya, on the promontory above and adjacent to the old-town district with medina Ghadema.

The Red Castle, in Arabic As-saraya Al-hamra (السرايا الحمراء), sometimes also Red Fort or Red Saraya, is a major landmark on the waterfront of Tripoli, bordering Martyrs' Square. It has been the home of the Red Castle Museum (under various names) since 1919, and of the Libyan Department of Archaeology since 1952.

The Sidi Darghut Mosque or Jama Sidi Darghut (Arabic: جامع درغوت باشا‎) is a mosque in Tripoli, Libya. It was built in around 1560 by Dragut on the site of a Hospitaller church, parts of which were incorporated into the mosque. The mosque was damaged in World War II but it was subsequently repaired, although the reconstruction was not completely faithful to its original design.

The Battle and massacre at Shar al-Shatt (Arabic: شارع الشط‎ Shār’ ash-Shaṭ; Sciara Sciat in Italian) occurred on 23 October 1911 in the village of Shar al-Shatt on the outskirts of Tripoli, Libya during the Italo-Turkish War. Five hundred three (503) Italian officers and men were killed in the fighting and the massacre of soldiers who had surrendered.

A series of massacres were committed by Ottoman and Italian forces during the Italo-Turkish War. In October 1911, Ottoman forces massacred captured Italian troops at Sciara Sciat (Arabic: Shar al-Shatt). In reprisal, Italian troops massacred several thousand civilians in the Mechiya oasis.

Tripolitania (Arabic: طرابلس‎ Ṭarābulus, Berber: Ṭrables, from Vulgar Latin *Trapoletanius, from Latin Regio Tripolitana, from Greek Τριπολιτάνια) is a historic region and former province of Libya.Tripolitania was a separate Italian colony from 1927 to 1934. From 1934 to 1963, Tripolitania was one of three administrative divisions within Italian Libya and the Kingdom of Libya, alongside Cyrenaica to the east and Fezzan to the south.

Zawiyat al-Dahmani is a suburb of Tripoli, Libya. It lies between the coast to the north, and the suburb of Fashloom to the south.As of 22 February 2011, during the Libyan Civil War, there were reports that it had been cordoned off by Libyan security forces. At the beginning of the Battle of Tripoli, Al Jazeera reported that Zawiyat al-Dahmani was under the opposition control.

The Martyrs' Square (Arabic: ميدان الشهداء‎ Maydān ash-Shuhadā'); known as Green Square (الساحة الخضراء as-Sāḥah al-Khaḍrā') under the Gaddafi government; Independence Square (ميدان الاستقلال Maydān al-Istiqlāl) during the monarchy; and originally (during Italian colonial rule) known as Piazza Italia ("Italy Square") is a downtown landmark at the bay in the city of Tripoli, Libya.
