Roses (Catalan pronunciation: [ˈrɔzəs], Spanish: Rosas, Spanish pronunciation: [ˈrosas]) is a municipality in the comarca of the Alt Empordà, located on the Costa Brava, in Catalonia, Spain.It is the site of the former bishopric of Rotdon, now a Latin Catholic titular see.It is situated on the coast at the northern end of the Gulf of Roses, and is an important fishing port and tourist centre.

Siege of Roses (1794–1795)

The Siege of Roses (or Siege of Rosas) began on 28 November 1794 and lasted until 4 February 1795 when the Spanish garrison abandoned the port and the forces of the First French Republic took control. Dominique Catherine de Pérignon commanded the French army and Domingo Salvator Izquierdo led the Spanish defenders.
