Nineteen-year-old John McDermott became the first American-born champion by defeating Mike Brady and George Simpson in an 18-hole playoff.Two past champions, Alec Ross and Fred McLeod, shared the 36-hole lead on Friday evening at 149 (−3), with McDermott, Brady, and Simpson four shots back at 153, in a five-way tie for fourth.

The 2018 U.S. Senior Women's Open was the inaugural U.S. Senior Women's Open and was the 14th championship run by the United States Golf Association. It was open to women whose 50th birthday fell on or before the first day of competition and held a handicap index not exceeding 7.4. The championship was played at the Chicago Golf Club from July 12 to 15.

Joe Lloyd won his only major title by one stroke over runner-up Willie Anderson.Following the first round on Friday morning, Anderson began the final round in the afternoon four clear of Lloyd, who shot a 79 over the last 18 holes to Anderson's 84 to finish a stroke ahead.

Chicago Golf Club is a private golf club in the central United States, located in Wheaton, Illinois, a suburb west of Chicago. The oldest 18-hole course in North America, it was one of the five founding clubs of the United States Golf Association (USGA) in 1894. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2020.
