Avignon

Avignon (, also US: ; French: [aviɲɔ̃] (listen); Provençal: Avinhon (Classical norm) or Avignoun (Mistralian norm), IPA: [aviˈɲun]; Latin: Avenio) is the prefecture of the Vaucluse department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of Southeastern France. Located on the left bank of the river Rhône, the commune had a population of 93,671 as of the census results of 2017, with about 16,000 (estimate from Avignon's municipal services) living in the ancient town centre enclosed by its medieval walls.

Avignon Cathedral (French: Cathédrale Notre-Dame des Doms d'Avignon) is a Roman Catholic church located next to the Palais des Papes in Avignon, France. The cathedral is the seat of the Archbishop of Avignon.The cathedral is a Romanesque building, constructed primarily in the second half of the 12th century.

Avignon University (French: Avignon Université) is a French university, based in Avignon. Located in the Academy of Aix and Marseille.It was founded in 1303 by Pope Boniface VIII, and closed in 1792 during the French Revolution. the University was re-opened as L'Université d'Avignon et des Pays de Vaucluse in 1984 following the 1963 establishment of an annex of Faculté des Sciences d'Aix-Marseille in Avignon.

The gare d'Avignon-Centre (Avignon Central railway station) is a railway station serving the city of Avignon, in Vaucluse, France. It is on the Paris–Marseille railway.

The Calvet Museum (musée Calvet) is the main museum in Avignon. Since the 1980s the collection has been split between two buildings, with the fine arts housed in an 18th-century hôtel particulier and a separate Lapidary Museum in the former chapel of the city's Jesuit college on rue de la République.

The Palais du Roure is a listed hôtel particulier in Avignon, France. It belonged to the Baroncelli family until it was purchased by author Jeanne de Flandreysy in 1918. It has been listed as an official historical monument since 19 November 1941.
