Immediate steep incline from Llanbadoc Island to the top of the bluff above Usk. A pleasant flat section follows, proceeded by a muddy downhill track. Flat through town, up the steps by the old railway bridge and then flat again down the riverside footpath. Then a long but gentle uphill section towards Usk Castle, before dropping back down into Usk, over the bridge and completing the loop.

Within the castle, and incorporating parts of its gatehouse, stands Castle House, a Grade I listed building in its own right.
