A fiercely windy & cold afternoon with signs of rain to follow; I have been out & about all day just the geography of Midlothian. Typical an engineer still in the making, my attention is always caught by the physical structure and as an enthusiast of place-making, my eye today was on the ubiquitous large scale occupation of litter/ rubbish on our living space; it is everywhere and very much a conspicuous tell-tale of how much and how carelessly we consume or buy in plenty but never use.
Another curious aspect was the difference of the streetscapes; there was certainly a large collection of rubbish scattered everywhere along the streets with commercial guest houses when I started walking earlier in the day and as I wandered onto the quieter side with imposing villas & mansions, there were litter bins poised outside with lids tightly shut waiting for collection but not a single sign of litter on the ground; as you can see in the photos-the bin men also appear to commence their rounds on the quieter cleaner side and carefully return the bins back where they picked them, while on the litter-filled end, they were dumping them wherever the lorry stopped; hmmm. What tale does rubbish tell about your hood?
Have a lovely night
