Gwent is a preserved county and a former local government county in south-east Wales. It was formed on 1 April 1974, under the Local Government Act 1972, and was named after the ancient Kingdom of Gwent. The authority was a successor to both the administrative county of Monmouthshire (with minor boundary changes) and the county borough of Newport (both authorities which were considered to be legally part of England until the Act came into force although considered jointly with Wales for certain purposes).

Llanfoist (Welsh: Llan-ffwyst) is both a village near Abergavenny, in Monmouthshire, Wales, and the community of Llanfoist Fawr. Llanfoist derives from Ffwyst, an early Christian Welsh saint, although the anglicised version of the church patron is Saint Faith. The population was 1,228 in 2011.

Llanellen (Welsh: Llanelen) is a village in Monmouthshire, south-east Wales, United Kingdom. It is located three miles (4.8 km) south of Abergavenny.The population was 506 in 2011.

Grove Farm House, Llanfoist, Monmouthshire is a farmhouse dating from the late 16th century. Reputedly the site of Beili-du, the home of Hywel y Coed, the brother of Dafydd Gam, the house was greatly extended in the 18th century, and further work was undertaken in the 19th. By the late 20th century, the house had fallen into dereliction, prior to its rescue in 1994–95.
