Riverside walk to Penallta Park

Gelligaer is a town and community in the County Borough of Caerphilly, Wales, in the Rhymney River valley. The community also includes the villages of Cefn Hengoed and Hengoed to the south. The population of the Town as shown at the 2011 census was 18,408.

Penallta Colliery was a coal mine, located close to Hengoed in the Rhymney Valley in the South Wales Valleys. A coal mine which in 1935 held the European record for coal wound in a 24-hour period, it is now the site of an original redevelopment project which will make use of the former pit head buildings.

Cefn Hengoed is a small village in the centre of Caerphilly borough, within the historic boundaries of Glamorganshire. Bordering the larger village of Hengoed, Cefn Hengoed contains the local Derwendeg primary school. Derwendeg primary school has recently celebrated its 90th birthday.Cefn Hengoed has a local public house called The Crosskeys which is situated facing the opening of Lansbury Avenue.

St Anne's Church, Cefn Hengoed is a disused Church in Wales church in Cefn Hengoed, Caerphilly in South Wales.The church dates from 1939 and was founded by Reverend John Owen Williams, who had started a cottage Sunday school in Cefn Hengoed in 1931. A Second World War air raid shelter is located at the side of the church.
