Beechhurst is a neighborhood in the northeastern section of the New York City borough of Queens. It is northeast of Whitestone, bordered by the East River to the north, the Cross Island Parkway to the south, and the approaches to the Throgs Neck and Whitestone bridges to the east and west respectively.

Whitestone Landing was the terminal station on the Whitestone Branch from its opening on August 9, 1886, to the Whitestone Branch's abandonment in February 1932. In June 1892 the station was moved back from the shoreline. On February 15, 1932, the Whitestone Branch was abandoned and all stations on the branch closed.

The Willets Point Farmhouse is a double farmhouse at Fort Totten within Bay Terrace in Queens, New York City. It was built in 1829 in the Greek Revival style for Charles Willets, who had recently acquired the land surrounding the house. In 1867, the Farmhouse was expanded and renovated in Gothic Revival style.

On the morning of July 2, 1956, an explosion involving scrap thorium occurred at the Sylvania Electric Products' Metallurgical Laboratory in Bayside, Queens, New York. Nine people were injured, some severely. One employee died on August 6, 1956. Workers described three fireballs.Sylvania was experimenting with large-scale production of thorium metal from thorium dioxide.

Fort Totten Officers' Club, also known as the Castle, is a historic clubhouse located at Fort Totten in Bayside, Queens, New York. It was built in the 1870s and expanded to its present size in 1887. It is a large Late Gothic Revival style building. It is a two-story, rectangular frame building with a projecting central tower pavilion and sheathed in clapboard.
