Starting in Chelmer Park past a children's playground through a gap in the hedge alonside a cricket pitch (avoid if there is a match) a few metres along Slades Lane then across the road into Goat Hall Lane turning up Bekeswell Lane onto the old racecourse on the common the ground is easy to walk on in dry weather. On reaching the wooded area take care of tree roots under foot. There is a pond amongst the trees where there are ducks & moorhens. Coming out onto the open ground the heritage centre on the left is open for teas/coffees & cake on most Tuesdays, Thursdays & Sundays. There is also a pub for meals & drinks.
