The First Republic of Korea (Korean: 제1공화국; RR: Jeil Gonghwaguk; lit. "first republic") was the government of South Korea from August 1948 to April 1960. The First Republic was founded on 15 August 1948 after the transfer from the United States Army Military Government that governed South Korea since the end of Japanese rule in 1945, becoming the first independent capitalist republican government in Korea.

The Catholic University of Korea (hangul : 가톨릭대학교 hanja : 天主教大學校) is a private Roman Catholic institution of higher education in South Korea. It was established in 1855 and is the oldest university in South Korea. The Catholic University of Korea operates campuses in Seoul and in the neighboring Bucheon City.

Gansong Art Museum is the first modern private museum of Korea and was founded by Jeon Hyeongpil (전형필 全鎣弼) in 1938. The museum was named after the pen name of the founder, Gansong (간송 澗松). Park Chung-hee, the Chairman of the Supreme Council, was elected President of South Korea in the 1963 presidential election.
