Around Whitworth Park

Whitworth Park is a public park in south Manchester, England, and the location of the Whitworth Art Gallery. To the north are the University of Manchester's student residences known as "Toblerones". It was historically in Chorlton on Medlock but is now included in the Moss Side ward.The park, of some 18 acres (7.3 ha) opposite Manchester Royal Infirmary, was opened in 1890 on land known as Potters Field.

It was designated a Grade II* listed building on 24 April 1987.The church is of red brick in an "Arts and Crafts Perpendicular" style. St Anselm Hall, known colloquially as Slems, is a traditional University of Manchester hall of residence situated in Victoria Park.It was founded in 1907 by Rev. Thomas B. Allworthy on behalf of the Church of England for the theological training of male students. The Hall was later licensed by the University of Manchester as an official hall of residence in 1954, extending the capacity of students from 70 to its current 130.
