Saltburn-by-the-Sea is a seaside town in Redcar and Cleveland, North Yorkshire, England, around 12 miles (19 km) south east of Hartlepool. It lies within the historic boundaries of the North Riding of Yorkshire. It has a population of around 6,000.The development of Middlesbrough and Saltburn was driven by the discovery of iron stone in the Cleveland Hills and the building of two railways to transport the minerals.
