The Latvian Soviet Socialist Republic (Latvian SSR; Latvian: Latvijas Padomju Sociālistiskā Republika; Russian: Латвийская Советская Социалистическая Республика, Latviyskaya Sovetskaya Sotsialisticheskaya Respublika), also known as Soviet Latvia or Latvia, was a republic of the Soviet Union.It was established on 21 July 1940, during World War II, as a Soviet puppet state in the territory of the previously independent Republic of Latvia after it had been occupied on June 17, 1940 by the Soviet Army, in conformity with the terms of the 23 August 1939 Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact.

Arena Riga (Latvian: Arēna Rīga) is an indoor arena in Riga, Latvia. It is primarily used for ice hockey, basketball and concerts. Arena Riga holds a maximum of 14,500 and was opened on 15 February 2006.It was built to be used as one of the venues for the 2006 IIHF World Championship, the other being Skonto Arena.

The Archbishopric of Riga (Latin: Archiepiscopatus Rigensis, Low German: Erzbisdom Riga) was an archbishopric in Medieval Livonia, a subject to the Holy See. It was established in 1186 as the bishopric of Livonia at Ikšķile, then after moving to Riga it became the bishopric of Riga in 1202 and was elevated to an archbishopric in 1255.

The Elektrum Olympic Centre (Latvian: Elektrum Olimpiskais centrs), until 2016: Olympic Sports Centre, Olimpiskais sporta centrs) is an indoor multi-functional sports facility in Rīga, Latvia, which was opened in 2005 at the former location of the Riga hippodrome by the Latvian Olympic Committee as part of a nationwide network of Olympic centres designed to improve the training and competition facilities of Latvian athletes.

Riga United FC is a Latvian football club, founded in 2007. The club plays at the School 49 in Riga. Riga United men's first team plays in Latvian League 2 Riga Division, the men's reserve team plays in Latvian League 3 and the Ladies team plays in the Latvian Women's League.Riga United is recognized as being the first truly multinational football club in the Baltic states, and to date more than 50 different nationalities have played for the club.

Skanste is a neighbourhood located in the center of Riga, the capital of Latvia, and is currently becoming its most modern part. Skonto Hall (also known as Skonto Arena) is an arena in Riga, Latvia. In the lobby of Skonto there are conference halls, a gym, and an arena with an artificial football field, which also hosts numerous exhibitions and concerts. The multi-purpose hall was originally built in 1996 and can accommodate either 2,000 seated spectators or 8,000 standing spectators.

Skonto Stadium (Latvian: Skonto stadions) is a football stadium in Riga, Latvia. The stadium has 9,500 seats and was built in 2000. It is the biggest football stadium in Latvia, and Is also home to the National Latvian team. Riga FC usually have an average attendance of 500. The stadium design incorporates Skonto Hall.

Swedish Livonia (Swedish: Svenska Livland) was a dominion of the Swedish Empire from 1629 until 1721. The territory, which constituted the southern part of modern Estonia (including the island of Ösel ceded by Denmark after the Treaty of Brömsebro) and the northern part of modern Latvia (the Vidzeme region), represented the conquest of the major part of the Polish-Lithuanian Duchy of Livonia during the 1600–1629 Polish-Swedish War.
