Avenches

Aventicum was the largest town and capital of Roman Switzerland (Helvetia or Civitas Helvetiorum). Its remains are beside the modern town of Avenches.The city was probably created ex nihilo in the early 1st century AD, as the capital of the recently conquered territory of the Helvetii, across the road that connected Italy to Britain, built under Claudius.

Avenches District is a former district of the Canton of Vaud, Switzerland. The seat of the district was the town of Avenches. It was dissolved on 31 August 2006 and all the municipalities joined the new Broye-Vully District.The following municipalities are located in the district:On 1 July 2006, Donatyre became part of the municipality of Avenches.

Avenches Castle is a castle in the municipality of Avenches of the Canton of Vaud in Switzerland. It is a Swiss heritage site of national significance.

Donatyre is a village in the district of Avenches of the Canton of Vaud, Switzerland. Since losing its status as an independent municipality on 1 July 2006, it has been part of the municipality of Avenches.The village, which follows the old Roman wall of Aventicum, contains a chapel dedicated to Saint Thecla.
