Friuli Venezia Giulia (pronounced [friˈuːli veˈnɛttsja ˈdʒuːlja]) is one of the 20 regions of Italy, and one of five autonomous regions with special statute. The regional capital is Trieste. The name used to be hyphenated as Friuli-Venezia Giulia until 2001. The region is called Friûl Vignesie Julie in Friulian and Furlanija Julijska krajina in Slovene, two languages spoken in the region.

Altura is a neighbourhood in the town of Trieste, Italy, region of Friuli Venezia Giulia. It was established in the 1970s, is located circa 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) from the centre of Trieste and has a population of about 3,400 inhabitants.

The Civico Orto Botanico di Trieste (90 hectares, cultivated area 10,000 m²) is a municipal botanical garden located at via Marchesetti 2, Trieste, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy.The garden was established in 1842 when the city first experimented with plantations of the Austrian black pine. By 1861 a botanical garden began to take shape with species collected from the Julian Alps in Istria and Dalmatia.

Mihele (pronounced [miˈxeːlɛ]; Italian: Micheli) is a small settlement in the Municipality of Hrpelje-Kozina in the Littoral region of Slovenia on the border with Italy.The parish church just outside the settlement is dedicated to the Prophet Elijah. The parish is known as the Draga Parish, although the actual village of Draga (Italian: Draga Santa Elia) is now on the Italian side of the border.

The Imperial Free City of Trieste and its Suburbs was a Holy Roman Empire possession from the 14th century to 1804, called in German as Reichsunmittelbare Stadt Triest und ihr Gebiet and in Italian as Città Imperiale di Trieste e Dintorni. In 1719 it was declared a free port by Charles VI, Holy Roman Emperor; the construction of the Austrian Southern Railway (1841–57) turned it into a bustling seaport, through which much of the exports and imports of the Austrian Lands were channelled.

Its capital is the city of Trieste.It had an area of 212 square kilometres (82 sq mi) and a total population of 234,668 (as of June 2016).

The Rosandra Valley (Italian: Val Rosandra, Slovene: Dolina Glinščice) is a valley centered on the Rosandra River (Slovene: Glinščica) in the municipality of Dolina in the Italian region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, between the city of Trieste and the border with Slovenia. It is also included into a natural park, mostly set around the Rosandra River and the surrounding hills reach an elevation of 412 metres (1,352 ft).
