Hotel del Coronado (also known as The Del and Hotel Del) is a historic beachfront hotel in the city of Coronado, just across the San Diego Bay from San Diego, California. It is one of the few surviving examples of an American architectural genre: the wooden Victorian beach resort. It is the second largest wooden structure in the United States (after the Tillamook Air Museum in Tillamook, Oregon) and was designated a California Historical Landmark in 1970 and a National Historic Landmark in 1977.

Coronado is a resort city located in San Diego County, California, across the San Diego Bay from downtown San Diego. It was founded in the 1880s and incorporated in 1890. Its population was 18,192 at the 2010 census, down from 24,100 at the 2000 census.Coronado lies on an island connected to the mainland by a tombolo called the Silver Strand.

The United States Phil Bucklew Naval Special Warfare Center (NSWC, also known as "The Center") is a component command of the Naval Special Warfare Command and is sited within Naval Amphibious Base Coronado, California.The NSWC currently covers these subsidiary training sites: Naval Air Station Key West, Florida; Hawaii; Yuma Proving Ground, Arizona; Hurlburt Field, Florida; Naval Special Warfare Cold Weather Detachment Kodiak, Alaska; SEAL Delivery Vehicle (SDV) Training, Naval Support Activity Panama City, Florida; Advanced Training, Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek, Virginia; and La Posta Mountain Warfare Training Facility.

The SS Monte Carlo was a concrete ship launched in 1921 as the oil tanker SS McKittrick. In 1936 she became a gambling and prostitution ship operating in international waters off the coast of Coronado, California.

Silver Strand, or simply The Strand, is a low, narrow, sandy isthmus or tombolo 7 miles (11 km) long in San Diego County, California partially within the Silver Strand State Beach. It connects Coronado Island with Imperial Beach. Together with the Point Loma peninsula it shelters and defines San Diego Bay.
