Wards Island Park

The Wards Island Bridge, also known as the 103rd Street Footbridge, is a pedestrian bridge crossing the Harlem River between Manhattan Island and Wards Island in New York City. The vertical lift bridge has a total of twelve spans consisting of steel towers and girders. It carries only pedestrian and bicycle traffic.

Randalls Island and Wards Island are conjoined islands, collectively called Randalls and Wards Islands, in the New York City borough of Manhattan, separated from most of Manhattan by the Harlem River, from Queens by the East River and Hell Gate, and from the Bronx by the Bronx Kill. The two islands were formerly separated, with Randalls Island to the north of Wards Island.

The Triborough Bridge (known officially as the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge, and sometimes referred to as the RFK Triborough Bridge, the RFK Bridge, or simply the RFK) is a complex of bridges and elevated expressway viaducts in New York City. The bridges link the New York City boroughs of Manhattan, Queens, and the Bronx.

Hell Gate is a narrow tidal strait in the East River in New York City. It separates Astoria, Queens from Randall's and Wards Islands.

The Manhattan Psychiatric Center is a New York-state run psychiatric hospital on Wards Island in New York City. As of 2009, it was licensed for 509 beds, but held only around 200 patients. The current building is 17 stories tall. The building strongly resembles that of the Creedmoor Psychiatric Center in Queens.

In 1851, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers led by General John Newton began to clear obstacles from Hell Gate, a strait in New York City's East River, with explosives. The operation would last 70 years. On September 24, 1876, the Corps used 50,000 pounds (23,000 kg) of explosives to blast the rocks, which was followed by further blasting.

St. Joseph's Chapel of the Manhattan State Hospital is a former Roman Catholic parish church under the authority of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York, located in the vicinity of Manhattan State Hospital on Ward Island Manhattan, New York City. The parish was established in 1872.
