There are eleven pubs along this route. Walking along Bourne Hill towards Southgate first up is the Woodman. A historic pub, at one time a gaol, lovely ambience backing on to Grovelands Park with a large car park and children’s playground. Continue along Bourne Hill beside the park, past the Priory Hospital to Southgate Underground Station turn right and the Hart, formally the White Hart, is there. It has a restaurant and outside seating as well as a lively bar. Turn right to walk along Winchmore Hill road to the Fishmongers Arms. A traditional pub with a beer garden out front and beloved by regulars. Walk to the end of Winchmore Hill road to the Winchmore, formally the Chaseside Tavern. This is an excellent pub with car park, outside seating and ply area. Inside over two levels is the bar and restaurant with spacious seating. Opposite walk down and then up Church Hill with Grovelands Park to the right and then St Paul’s Church, to the Kings Head. A substantial pub with excellent restaurant and function room upstairs. Walking down Hoppers road come to the Salisbury Arms, another substantial building with bbq area, pub grub, outside seating and huge car park opposite. Walk down Compton Road opposite, over the railway bridge, take the first left and right and there is the Queens Head. Another excellent pub serving good food and beer with a large garden at the back and music at the weekends. Continue downhill on Station Road to on Broadway. A sports bar. Turn right along Green Lanes to the Three Wishes. Again live sports and good beer. Continue on Green Lanes to turn left onto Highfield Rd, over the bridge crossing the New River and there is the Orange Tree. A very traditional pub much loved by locals and regulars. Excellent beer and conversation. Huge garden out back with play area. Seating outside at the front. Leaving walk left along the New River and join Green Lanes once again past St Monica’s church and turn right onto Bourne Hill once again. Turn left onto Hoppers Road and come to the Dog and Duck. A traditional Victorian pub with great beer, some food on occasion as well as music. Sports all weekend and lovely atmosphere. Time for a pint.
