Kiawah Island

Kiawah is a sea island, or barrier island, on the Atlantic coast of the United States. Located 25 miles (40 km) southwest of Charleston in Charleston County, South Carolina, it is primarily a private beach and golf resort. It is home to the Kiawah Island Golf Resort, with spacious villas, beaches, large and acclaimed golf courses, and other attractions.

Kiawah Island Golf Resort is a resort in Kiawah Island, South Carolina, and located along 10 miles of pristine beach on a barrier island less than 30 miles southwest of Charleston. It opened in May 1976 and consistently ranks as one of the country’s top resorts. The resort is anchored by The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort, a Forbes Five Star/AAA Five Diamond 255-room luxury hotel and spa.

The 2003 WGC-World Cup took place November 13–16 at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort, Ocean Course in Kiawah Island, South Carolina, U.S. It was the 49th World Cup and the fourth as a World Golf Championship event. 24 countries competed and each country sent two players. The prize money totaled $4,000,000 with $1,400,000 going to the winning pair.

The 1997 World Cup of Golf took place 20–23 November at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort, Ocean Course in Kiawah Island, South Carolina, U.S. It was the 43rd World Cup. The tournament was a 72-hole stroke play team event (32 teams) with each team consisting of two players from a country. The combined score of each team determined the team results.

The Arnoldus Vander Horst House is a plantation house on Kiawah Island, South Carolina. It is named for Arnoldus Vanderhorst, who was a governor of South Carolina.The house was listed in the National Register of Historic Places on October 25, 1973.
