Copacabana (Portuguese pronunciation: [kɔpakɐˈbɐ̃nɐ, ko-, -pɐ-, -kaˈ-]) is a bairro (neighbourhood) located in the South Zone of the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is known for its 4 km (2.5 miles) balneario beach, which is one of the most famous in the world.

Ipanema (Portuguese pronunciation: [ipaˈnẽmɐ]) is a neighborhood located in the South Zone of the city of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), between Leblon and Arpoador. The beach at Ipanema became known internationally with the popularity of the bossa nova jazz song, "The Girl from Ipanema" ("Garota de Ipanema"), written by Antônio Carlos Jobim and Vinícius de Moraes.

Belmond Copacabana Palace is a hotel in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, facing Copacabana beach. Designed by French architect Joseph Gire, it was built in a style that follows the line and model of the great beach hotels of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and opened on August 13, 1923.

Copacabana Stadium, also known as the Beach Volleyball Arena (Portuguese: Arena de Vôlei de Praia), was a temporary stadium located on Copacabana beach, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, that hosted the beach volleyball competition of the 2016 Summer Olympics. It was erected in 2016 specifically for the Olympic Games and was planned to be dismantled after the Games.

Cantagalo–Pavão–Pavãozinho is a bairro (neighborhood) and a group of favelas in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, located between the bairros of Ipanema and Copacabana. As of 2010, it has circa 5,000 inhabitants.It was pacified by the Pacifying Police Unit in 2009, and on June 30, 2010, the Rubem Braga Complex was inaugurated in it, composed of two towers, an overlook (named by the inhabitants of the region "Mirante da Paz", or the "Peace Overlook") and two lifts linking the favela to the General Osório Metro Station.

General Osório is a station on Line 1 of the Rio de Janeiro Metro located in the Ipanema borough of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is the line's southern terminus. The station opened in December 2009.

The Hotel Atlantico Praia, formerly the Ouro Verde Hotel, is a small hotel in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. At one time the Ouro Verde was considered one of the world's best small hotels, and the restaurant had a high reputation. Over time it lost some of its lustre, but it has recently been renovated.

The Edelstein Center for Social Research is a Brazilian think tank based in Rio de Janeiro, that: 1) promotes research and publications designed to improve public policies and institutions to enhance democracy and social justice in Latin America; 2) fosters the dialogue between social actors and knowledge producers to disseminate internationally Latin American social sciences production and research institutions; 3) develops free access virtual libraries, data banks and the translation of Latin American social research works into English.
