Best Walking Routes in Avenue Gardens

#1 - Palmers Green to Wood Green New River Path
1
Length: 3.5 milesEst. Time: 1h35m

This section of the New River Path starts in the aptly named New River Crescent and goes along the bank of the channel, crossing the occasional road to Green Lanes. Here the gate is locked. Don’t turn left but leave the river, turn right, then first left into Broomfield Lane and left into Shapland Way to rejoin the path. Walk for a short distance to cross Pymmes Brook and this brings you out at the North Circular road. Cross this, rejoin the path and go all the way to Myddleton Road and Bowes Park Community Garden for a rest. Then the river goes underground and a detour along Palmerston Rd to Finsbury Garden Park and back on the river literally for it flows beneath the park into Trinity Garden Park and Nightingale Garden Park. Cross Park Avenue and Station road and back on to the route at Wood Green. It is a interesting walk mostly by the river and usually on grass or gravel paths. Occasionally on stretches of paved surface not always obviously signposted but worth a little detective work for the lightbulb moment reward.
